Jake Owen announces his 2022 “Up There Down Here” tour

Jake Owen has announced his 34-date North American “Up There Down Here Tour,” set to launch this May.  Said Owen: “Looking forward to getting back out there, bringing smiles and happiness and some new tunes. The world needs more of that.” 

The tour kicks-off on May 5 in Troy, Ohio and will include stops at festivals such as Faster Horses, Watershed, and Country Stampede, along with shows at Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth, Weidner Field in Colorado Springs, Rockin’ Derby Eve in Louisville at Old Forester’s Paristown Hall, and more.  For ticket info, head here.

Owen dropped new music last month with his single, “Up There Down Here.”  He also teased on social media this past weekend that he will be releasing new music this Friday, August 29th with the track “1×1.”

Maddie & Tae announce rescheduled 2022 CMT Next Women of Country tour dates

Maddie & Tae have announced the rescheduled dates of their 2022 CMT Next Women of Country Tour Presents: All Song No Static Tour.   The tour will now kick off on September 15th in Oklahoma City, before wrapping up on October 15th in Grand Rapids.  Tickets can be purchased at the link – here.

Joining the duo will be CMT Next Women of Country colleagues Abbey Cone and Sacha, who will appear at various stops along the tour. Cone will replacing Callista Clark, who was on the initial set of dates.

Maddie & Tae were originally scheduled to launch the tour back in January; however, were forced to postpone due to Taylor (Tae) Kerr’s pregnancy. Kerr’s baby, Leighton Grace, was born prematurely and spent 53 days in the NICU before being sent home last month.

Take a look at the trailer for Hulu’s romantic-comedy ‘Fire Island’ starring Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Yang

Hulu has shared a trailer for the LGBTQ romantic comedy ‘Fire Island,’ featuring Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Yang.

Fire Island follows Noah (Booster) and Howie (Yang), two gay best friends who vacation on Fire Island, a hotspot for queer culture in New York. The pair party with friends and flirt with two wealthy vacationers, Will (Conrad Ricamora) and Charlie (James Scully).  Matt Rogers, Margaret Cho, Nick Adams, Tomás Matos and Torian Miller also star.

Booster is a writer, actor and comedian who appeared in his own Comedy Central Stand-Up Presents special in 2017. Yang is a writer for ‘Saturday Night Live’ and also starred on Awkwafina is Nora from Queens.  Booster wrote and executive produced the film, with Andrew Ahn as director.

Britney Spears says she is taking a ‘social media hiatus’ amid pregnancy

Britney Spears has shared in an Instagram post that she will be on a break from social media for “a little while.”  The 40-year-old singer wrote“I’m going on a social media hiatus for a little while!!!  I send my love and God bless you all.”

The social media hiatus for Spears follows her recent announcement that she expecting her third child, her first with her fiancé, Sam Asghari. Spears shares two sons, Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Said Spears earlier this month:  “I am having a baby. I obviously won’t be going out as much due to the paps getting their money shot of me like they unfortunately already have.”

Spears and Asghari got engaged in September 2021 amid Spears’ conservatorship battle. In November, a Los Angeles judge officially ended Spears’ 13-year conservatorship.

One adult, three children killed in Philadelphia house fire

Authorities confirmed that at least four people died in a house fire in Philadelphia early Sunday morning. The Philadelphia Fire Department said three children were among those pronounced dead after both floors of a two-story rowhome in the neighborhood of Kensington caught fire at around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel said in a news conference on Sunday afternoon that 38-year-old woman jumped out of a window to escape the blaze and was taken to a hospital to be treated for burns.  The fire was placed under control at 2:28 a.m.  Officials said the house did not have working smoke detectors and encouraged those without working smoke detectors to call 311 to have the department install them.

The Philadelphia fire department tweeted: “Despite a strong response by the PFD it has been a devastating morning in Kensington. Please keep the community and our members in your thoughts. The cause of the fire is under investigation and the medical examiner’s office will work to determine the causes of death.”

South Carolina police officer killed in shooting after standoff with suspect

A South Carolina police officer was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance early Sunday morning. Cayce, SC Police Chief Chris Cowan said in a press conference Sunday that police officer Roy Andrew Barr, 28, was killed while responding to a domestic disturbance in the city at around 2:48 a.m. after the suspect opened fire.  The suspect later killed himself.

Barr joined the Cayce Police Department in 2016 and was promoted to the K-9 division in 2020. He worked with a dog named, Molly, that performs tracking and narcotics functions.  Police Chief Cowan said:  “He loved his dog, Molly, and he loved his job. He loved being a K-9 officer, and he was good at it.” 

Cayce Mayor Elise Partin said in a news conference: “Our hearts are breaking in Cayce. Officer Drew Barr has been an important part of the Cayce family since 2016. All of our Cayce officers, our Cayce team and our Cayce citizens mourn with Officer Barr’s family.”  

Police identified the suspect as 36-year-old Austin Henderson; Police Chief Cowan said Henderson killed himself after a seven-hour negotiation and the coroner’s office confirmed the cause of death.

Brett Eldredge shares the title track “Songs About You” from upcoming album

Brett Eldredge took to social media to share the release of his new single “Songs About You,” from his upcoming album of the same name.

Brett’s LP Songs About You is his fifth studio album, and the follow-up to his last album Sunday Drive.  Songs About You features 12 songs co-written by Eldredge, including the previously-released “Want That Back” and “Holy Water.”

Margo Price releases ’That’s How Rumors Get Started’ deluxe edition

Margo Price has released a deluxe edition of her 2020 album That’s How Rumors Get Started including eight new tracks, including the previously unreleased “Goin’ To The Country.”  Along with the 2021 single “Long Live The King,” the deluxe edition also contains covers of Linda Ronstadt’s “You’re No Good,” Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me” and Bobbie Gentry’s “He Made a Woman Out Of Me.”  New original songs include “Hitman,” “Later On” (featuring Band of Heathens and Nicki Bluhm), and “Better Than Nothin.”

Jeff Bridges to star in new FX series ‘The Old Man’

FX is set to release the new drama series The Old Man, starring Jeff Bridges as a man who has been living off the grid since he absconded from the CIA decades ago. The series, based on Thomas Perry’s bestselling novel of the same name, will air at 10 p.m. EDT on FX and stream the next day on Hulu. The Old Man will debut by releasing the first two episodes of the seven-episode season on its premiere date, June 16th.

The plot of The Old Man ‘centers around absconded CIA operative Dan Chase (Bridges), who is driven out of hiding when an assassin arrives and tries to take him out. Chase then learns he must reconcile with his past to ensure his future. After he leaves hiding, FBI’s Assistant Director for Counterintelligence Harold Harper (John Lithgow), who has a complicated past with the rogue operative, hunts him down, along with his protégé Angela Adams (Alia Shawkat) and CIA Special Agent Raymond Waters (E.J. Bonilla). Authorities have to call in a highly trained special ops contractor Julian Carson (Gbenga Akinnagbe) to pursue him as well when he proves more difficult to apprehend than expected.’

Bridges will also serve as executive produces the series, along with Warren Littlefield, Jonathan E. Steinberg, Dan Shotz, Robert Levine, David Schiff and Jon Watts, who also directed the first two episodes.

Netflix series ‘God’s Favorite Idiot’ starring Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone to premiere on June 15

Netflix announced the premiere date for the Melissa McCarthy/Ben Falcone series God’s Favorite Idiot, set to debut on June 15. Falcone created the series and executive produces with McCarthy and Michael McDonald, who also serves as director.  God’s Favorite Idiot will consist of eight episodes.

In God’s Favorite Idiot, Falcone plays Clark Thompson, a tech support worker who has a crush on his colleague, Amily (McCarthy). One day, Clark starts to glow and becomes a religious leader to a flock of followers.  Also starring in the series is Leslie Bibb, Kevin Dunn, Usman Ally, Steve Mallory, Chris Sandiford, Ana Scotney and Yanic Truesdale — McCarthy’s Gilmore Girls co-star.

Falcone has frequently directed his wife McCarthy, most recently the Netflix comedy Thunder Force. McCarthy and Falcone also produced the series Nobodies, and Falcone often appears in cameos in McCarthy’s films.
