Netflix Halts Production On Season 2 Of ‘The Witcher’ After Multiple COVID-19 Tests

For the second time, Netflix has been forced to stop production on the second season of The Witcher due to positive COVID-19 tests, and as of press time there is no date for when production will resume.

Deadline reported that those diagnosed were not part of the show’s main cast and they have already been quarantined. Filming was taking place west of London, and the UK has seen a dramatic leap in coronavirus cases over the last several weeks. Only when filming is believed to be safe again will production restart. Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich addressed the situation on Twitter, thanking fans for their support and saying that the staff seemed to be doing well. She added that the team would be back to production “soon.”

Starring Henry Cavill, The Witcher is based on the book series of the same now, and the video games associated with the series helped to turn the franchise into a global success. They feature many of the same characters, locations, and story elements.

President-Elect Biden To Announce COVID-19 Task Force As Cases Continue To Rise Across The U.S.

President-elect Joe Biden is keeping a campaign promise to make the resurgent coronavirus his immediate priority, and on Monday will announce a 12-member task force to deal with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Biden spent much of his election campaign criticizing President Donald Trump’s handling of the pandemic, which has now caused the deaths of 237,000 people in America. The United States saw a record number of new infections last week, with the total number of cases nearing 10 million.

The coronavirus task force will be charged with developing a blueprint for containing the disease once Biden takes office in January. It will be headed by three co-chairs, former surgeon general Vivek Murthy, former Food and Drug Administration commissioner David Kessler, and Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith of Yale University, according to two people familiar with the matter.

On Sunday, Biden’s transition team launced a new website, BuildBackBetter.com, and a new social media handle, @transition46, to provide the public with information on the handover.

Tropical Storm Eta Makes Landfall On Cuba On Track Towards Florida

Tropical Storm Eta was heading toward the Florida Keys on Sunday night after making landfall in central Cuba overnight with 65 mph winds. Eta could get stronger, and forecasters warned it could be a hurricane by the time it reaches the Florida Keys.

The National Hurricane Center said tropical storm force winds, storm surge and flash flooding spread over South Florida and the Keys as of Sunday evening. The National Hurricane Center issued storm surge and hurricane warnings for part of the Florida Keys, and a hurricane watch continues for part of the Florida peninsula as well.  However, there is also a chance Eta could slow down or even stall near or just west of the Florida Keys.

Forecasters also continued to warily watch Eta’s forecast path, which takes the tropical storm into the Gulf by Monday and turns it northward.  Eta should reach the eastern Gulf of Mexico by late Monday into Tuesday.

Eta could bring 6 to 12 inches of rain to parts of Central and South Florida, with isolated areas getting up to 18 inches. Tornados will also be possible in the Keys and southern Florida.

‘Today Show’ Host Al Roker Announces Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

Al Roker revealed he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The “Today” show weatherman and co-host, 66, said he will undergo surgery to have his prostate removed.

Roker explained he wanted to publicly reveal his diagnosis in order to spotlight the number of men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer. “If you detect it early, this is a really treatable disease. And it’s why I wanted to take you along my journey, so we can all learn together how to educate and protect the men in our lives.” he said. “I don’t want people thinking, ‘Oh, poor Al,’ you know, because I’m gonna be OK.”

Roker will be undergoing surgery this week at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Dr. Vincent Laudone, who is set to perform the surgery, discussed the severity of Roker’s diagnosis, saying, “Fortunately his cancer appears somewhat limited or confined to the prostate, but because it’s more aggressive, we wanted to treat it. We settled on removing the prostate.”

Vote Count Continues In Key States As President Trump Receives Pushback Against False Election Claims

While a winner has not been declared in the presidential race, President Donald Trump is reiterating unfounded claims that Democrats are trying to “steal” the election from him. He did not back up his claim with any details or evidence, and state and federal officials have not reported any instances of widespread voter fraud.

Trump spoke from the White House briefing room on Thursday, and had harsh criticism of pre-election polling that showed him trailing Democrat Joe Biden and claiming without evidence that the ballot-counting process is unfair and corrupt. He also renewed his criticism of widespread use of mail-in balloting in the pandemic.

The ballot-counting is ongoing in several battleground states. With 71 electoral votes in the balance. the biggest prize — Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes — could be awarded soon when election officials predicted most of the 250,666 outstanding ballots would be tabulated. Besides Pennsylvania, the race remained too close to call in Arizona with 11 electoral votes, Nevada with six, Georgia with 16, North Carolina with 15 and Alaska with three.

Biden’s electoral count stands at 253 to Trump’s 213; it takes 270 to win.
