Alicia Vikander to Star And Produce ‘Dial M for Murder’ TV Series

Alicia Vikander is set to star in and executive produce the upcoming TV adaptation of Dial M For Murder.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the show is ‘Designed as an anthology series that will reset each season, the new take reimagines Frederick Knott’s 1952 play and its subsequent 1954 feature film by Alfred Hitchcock.” Adding another aspect to the reimagining, the anthology series will ‘tell the crime thriller from the female perspective.’  Vikander and writer/producer Terence Winter teamed with MGM/UA Television to develop the series, which currently has no network attached to it.

The 1954 film adaptation of Dial M For Murder revolves around an ‘ex-tennis pro’ named Tony Wendice,’ played by Ray Milland, who ‘wants to have his wealthy wife, Margot (Grace Kelly) murdered so he can get his hands on her inheritance.’ When he discovers Margot’s affair with Mark Halliday, Tony ‘comes up with the perfect plan to kill her.’

In his message, Trebek reminded everyone that there are “reasons to be thankful” despite having to celebrate amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, saying, “You know, in spite of what America and the rest of the world is experiencing right now, there are many reasons to be thankful. There are more and more people extending helpful hands to do a kindness to their neighbors, and that’s a good thing.” Trebek ended his message by encouraging everyone to “keep the faith.” “We’re going to get through all of this, and we will be a better society because of it.”

Dow Hits 30,000 As Presidential Transition Officially Goes Forward

Dow Jones Industrial Average traded above 30,000 for the first time as President-elect Joe Biden formally begins his transition.

Stocks finished higher Tuesday, with the Dow finishing up nearly 455 points, or 1.54%, to 30,046, and set an intraday all-time high of 30,116. The S&P 500 gained 1.62% and the Nasdaq Composite finished up 1.31%.

Reports said Biden would nominate former Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen as treasury secretary. Yellen would be the first woman to lead the department. She also was the first woman to serve as Fed chair after her Senate confirmation in 2014. In addition, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will put $455 billion in unspent Cares Act funding into an account that Yellen will need authorization from Congress to access. Mnuchin plans to place the money into the agency’s General Fund, a Treasury Department spokesperson said Tuesday. That fund can be tapped only with “authority based on congressionally issued legislation,” according to the Treasury’s website.

GSA Allows Biden Transition To Formally Begin

On Monday, President-elect Joe Biden was formally given the go-ahead by a federal agency to begin his transition to the White House, shortly after the battleground state of Michigan certified him as the winner there. With this news, President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn his Nov. 3 election defeat appear to be coming to a close.

The U.S. General Services Administration, an independent agency, informed Biden that his transition – leading up to a Jan. 20 inauguration – could officially begin. In a tweet, Trump wrote that GSA Administrator Emily Murphy and her team should “do what needs to be done with regard to initial protocols, and have told my team to do the same.”

The move by the GSA means Biden’s team will now have federal funds and an official office to conduct his transition over the next two months. It also paves the way for Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris to receive regular national security briefings that Trump also gets.

Michigan Election Officials Vote To Certify Joe Biden As Winner Of Presidential Election

On Monday, Michigan election officials certified Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in the state, another setback for President Donald Trump’s efforts challenging the results of the Nov. 3 election through lawsuits and unsupported claims of fraud. The Board of State Canvassers, which has two Republicans and two Democrats, confirmed the results on a 3-0 vote with one abstention. Allies of Trump and losing GOP Senate candidate John James had urged the panel to delay voting for two weeks. Under Michigan law, Biden claims all 16 electoral votes. Biden won by 2.8 percentage points — a larger margin than in other states where Trump is contesting the results like Georgia, Arizona, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said in a statement: “The people of Michigan have spoken. President-elect Biden won the State of Michigan by more than 154,000 votes, and he will be our next president on January 20th.”

The Trump legal team dismissed the certification as “simply a procedural step” and insisted it would fight on. However thus far, Trump’s challenges and baseless allegations of widespread conspiracy and fraud have been met with rejection as states move forward with confirming their results.
