Netflix shares teaser trailer for Season 4 of ‘You’

Netflix has shared a new teaser-trailer for Season 4 of the drama ‘You.’ In the new promo, Penn Badgley’s character Joe Goldberg is now residing more than 3,000 miles away from New York, under the alias of professor Jonathan Moore. Goldberg shares that he’s somehow become a teacher in the U.K., saying in his trademark inner monologue: “I’m not the lovable bookstore manager in New York, or the shop clerk in L.A. or the doting husband in the suburbs. No. Not any more.  Allow me to introduce myself. I’ve gone through a bit of refinement upon crossing the pond, and living in London has allowed me to bury the past, if you will.”

Season 3 concluded with Goldberg traveling to Paris to follow his new obsession, Marienne Bellamy (Tati Gabrielle). The psychological thriller has added some new faces for Season 4, including Tilly Keeper, Amy Leigh Hickman, and Ed Speleers. Badgley and Gabrielle are set to reprise their Season 3 roles, alongside previously announced new stars Charlotte Ritchie and Lukas Gage.

The first three seasons of “You” are streaming on Netflix. Part 1 of Season 4 is set to premiere Feb. 10th, and Part 2 drops on March 10th.  You can take a look at the trailer for Season 4 – here.

Katie Couric announces breast cancer diagnosis

Former Today Show anchor Katie Couric has gone public with her breast cancer diagnosis.  The 65-year-old Couric posted on social media Wednesday, sharing that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in June: “Every two minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States. On June 21st, I became one of them. As we approach #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, I wanted to share my personal story with you all and encourage you to get screened and understand that you may fall into a category of women who needs more than a mammogram. Head to the link in my bio or katiecouric.com to read my essay.”

In an essay on her website, Couric detailed that she had a mammogram June 20 after missing the routine checkup in 2021. Her doctor took a biopsy and informed Couric the next day that the test showed cancer. Said Couric:  “I felt sick and the room started to spin. I was in the middle of an open office, so I walked to a corner and spoke quietly, my mouth unable to keep up with the questions swirling in my head.”  Couric’s first husband, Jay Monahan, died from colon cancer at age 42 in 1998  Her sister, Emily Couric, died from pancreatic cancer at age 54 in 2001, and her mother and father both have a history with cancer.

Couric had surgery to remove an olive-sized tumor in July and began radiation treatments Sept. 7; she just completed her final round of radiation this week. She will also take an aromatase inhibitor for five years. Couric ended her post urging others to take care of their health: “Please get your annual mammogram. I was six months late this time. I shudder to think what might have happened if I had put if off longer. But just as importantly, please find out if you need additional screening.”

Grammy Award-Winning rapper Coolio dies at age 59

Coolio’s longtime manager, Jarez Posey, has confirmed to TMZ and Rolling Stone that the rapper has died at age 59. The Grammy Award winner (born Artis Leon Ivey Jr.) was visiting a friend on Wednesday, September 28, when he suddenly passed away.

Posey revealed to TMZ that Coolio’s friend grew concerned when the rapper was indisposed for an extended period of time and didn’t respond to his name being called, when he eventually went and found Coolio unresponsive. An ambulance was called and EMTs pronounced the rapper dead on the scene. Posey said the paramedics suspect Coolio went into cardiac arrest, though an official cause of death has yet to be determined.

Coolio, perhaps best known for his 1995 Grammy-Award winning single “Gangsta’s Paradise,” released eight solo studio albums between 1994 and 2009, and also appeared on the big screen in 1997’s Batman & Robin opposite George Clooney, Get Over It with Kirsten Dunst in 2001, and Ben Affleck‘s 2003 Daredevil movie. He also made memorable appearances on television shows including Sabrina the Teenage Witch, The Nanny, Charmed and Teachers.

Coolio was married to Josefa Salinas from 1996 to 2000. They shared four kids, daughters Artisha, Brandi, Jackie and son Artis, who co-starred with him on the 2008 reality series Coolio’s Rules.

House Jan. 6 panel postpones hearing planned for Wednesday due to Hurricane Ian

The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol has postponed a hearing scheduled for Wednesday due to Hurricane Ian, which is forecast to hit Florida as a potential Category 4 storm. The hearing was supposed to be the committee’s ninth and final hearing, and reveal some of the information the committee said they learned this summer.

The committee said in a statement: “In light of Hurricane Ian bearing down on parts of Florida, we have decided to postpone tomorrow’s proceedings. We’re praying for the safety of all those in the storm’s path  The Select Committee’s investigation goes forward and we will soon announce a date for the postponed proceedings.”

Committee Chair Bennie Thompson said earlier this month that the committee plans to put together an interim report in mid-October, and will finalize the report before the end of the year, which would take them past the November midterm elections. The committee’s two Republicans, Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, are both leaving Congress in January.

Hurricane Ian forecast to hit Florida’s west coast late Wednesday evening as possible Category 4 storm

Hurricane Ian was predicted to strengthen to a Category 4 storm as it targets Florida.  According to the National Hurricane Center, the hurricane made landfall in Cuba about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday just southwest of La Coloma in the western province of Pinar del Río with maximum sustained winds of 125 mph.

Forecasters expect the storm to continue to intensify as it makes it way north toward the west coast of Florida. Tampa and St. Petersburg had appeared to be among the most likely targets for their first direct hit by a major hurricane in a century, but path projection now show Ian expected to hit further south along the coast. Mandatory and voluntary evacuation orders are in place in eight Florida counties: Charlotte, Hillsborough, Levy, Lee, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas and Sarasota.  Ian is expected to bring 6 to 12 inches of rain to central-west Florida, 4 to 8 inches to the rest of the peninsula and 4 to 6 inches to the Keys through Thursday.  Winds of at least 130 mph are probable.

With hurricane-force winds extending 40 miles out from its center Tuesday evening, it is anticipated that more areas of Florida will be exposed to dangerous storm impacts once the storm moves onshore in about 24 hours. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a Tuesday evening news conference: “You’re going to see impacts all the way to the east coast of Florida. This thing is the real deal. It is a major, major storm.  This is going to be a lot of impacts that will be felt far and wide throughout the state of Florida. As the storm moves in, you’re going to potentially have (evacuation) directives issued from folks in the interior of our state or even the east coast of the state for low-lying areas that absolutely could end up flooding …Heed those instructions.”

Kentucky school shooter involved in 1997 incident sentenced to spend life in prison

On Monday, the Kentucky Parole Board ruled that 39-year-old Michael Carneal, the man convicted in the 1997 school shooting that took the life of three students, should remain in prison for the rest of his life. The unanimous ruling from the seven-member board means that Carneal will never be eligible for parole consideration again.

Carneal was 14 years old when he injured five people along with killing three in the shooting at Heath High School in Paducah, Kentucky. He testified to two members of the board last week that he still “heard voices” in his head, similar to the ones that led to him opening fire on the high school on Dec. 1, 1997.  However at last week’s hearing, Carneal said while he knew right from wrong when he committed the shootings, he blamed his mental health condition for his actions.

Carneal had served nearly 25 years before his last parole hearing. The living victims of the shooting, including one who was paralyzed, testified in front of the board last week as well. Parole Board Chair Ladeidra Jones told Carneal that due to the seriousness of the crime” and because lives were taken, “it is the decision of the parole board that you will serve out your sentence.”
